Strathmore Festival - 2010Return to information on this year's Strathmore Festival 2010 Strathmore Festival Events:
The 2010 Strathmore Festival celebrates the 100th anniversary of Adelaide Alsop Robineau's Scarab Vase. It will take place on the street named in her honor -- Robineau Road -- on Saturday, June 19th, 2010 from 10 am until 5 pm. Located in the heart of the Strathmore Neighborhood, Robineau Road is the site of Four Winds Cottage, Robineau's famous home. The festival will also feature the annual Strathmore Historic Homes Tour from 10 am – 5 pm. This year, five homes neighboring the Robineau estate will be presented. Included on the tour is a home designed by Ward Wellington Ward in 1919. Known as Stowell House, the home is believed to be the only stone exterior home designed by the architect. Other homes on the tour include a lovely bungalow that the artist had built for her sister. Located next to the Robineau studio, it is worth noting that Mrs. Robineau, in a move quite unusual for the era, commissioned a female architect named Catherine Budd to design the home. Also featured will be the home of Syracuse's 45th mayor, Thomas J. Corcoran, who served from 1950-1953. The Syracuse Ceramic Guild will offer live ceramic-making displays in addition to hosting an art show and sale along Robineau Road. The Guild is collaborating with The Arts and Crafts Society of Central New York in a carved vase contest to honor the Scarab Vase. Winners will be displayed at the Everson Museum. Plans are currently underway by the Everson to offer a special Robineau display at the museum around the time of the tour. ACSNY will also present talks on the Arts & Craft Movement in Central NY. Arts and Crafts historian and expert Cleota Reed will share her extensive knowledge with those in attendance. The Onondaga Historical Association will display artifacts of Robineau, Keck, Ward and other prominent Arts & Craft leaders. They are also planning lectures, along with their famous "Ghost Walk." ![]() The Onondaga Park Association gratefully acknowledges the following...
